5B Math Test

The Unit 4 Math Test for 5B math students will be on Tuesday, December 16. Please review your study guide with a parent. You can also earn 2 extra credit points by having a parent sign your study guide.

Reading Test

This week, we read the story Island of the Blue Dolphins as part of our "Courage" unit in reading. Please ask your student how the characters in this story demonstrated courage.
We will have a vocabulary/comprehension test on this story on Wednesday, November 19th.

Unit 3 Math Test

1st Quarter Auction

Our 1st quarter auction will take place this Friday. Don't forget your items!  Remember to make a list of your items and have a parent sign it. This will let me know that you have your parent's permission to sell your items.

Pumpkin Science Volunteers Needed!!

5B still needs parent volunteers for our Pumpkin Science lab.  The lab is scheduled for this Wednesday. Please click on the sign up sheet to view details and the specific time.

Timeline for Book Commercials

Scripts should be completed during the week of October 27th.
Commercials will be taped on November 5, 6 and 7.  Before the taping students should have scripts memorized.  Click on the "Book Commercial" link to view the directions and rubric.

*Remember, the majority of your project should be completed at school.

Bartering Activity

Don't forget that your bartering item is due on Tuesday (10/7).  We will do the bartering activity on Wednesday (10/8). Please be prepared!!

5B Math

The Unit 2 math test will be on Tuesday (10/7). Please use your study guide, wink sheet and the website to prepare.

Testing

All 5th graders will take the CogAT Test this week. We will test on Tuesday 9/23, Wednesday 9/24 and Thursday 9/25. Please make sure your child is in attendance and well-rested.

Curriculum Night

Owen's Curriculum Night is this Wednesday, September 17. There are two classroom sessions.
Session 1:  6:30-7:10
Session 2:  7:15-7:55
You will also be able to sign up for fall conferences.
Remember, this night is for parents only.

Field Trip Reminder

4B Students and Parents,
The Chicago History Museum trip is this Thursday, May 15. Please make sure that your lunch is completely disposable. You will not be allowed to carry empty food containers throughout the museum. Also, please arrive at school on time. We will be loading the buses promptly.

Hopefully everyone had a terrific Spring Break!!  Here are a few reminders as we head back to school on Monday.

1. Please bring in your cereal box. You will use it in art on Monday for your State Fair visual project.  If you have any extra cereal boxes please bring them in also.

2. Boosterthon money is due on Tuesday, April 8.

3. March Book-It forms should be turned in as soon as possible. Also your weekly reading log is due on Monday.

Open House!!

Open House is on Wednesday, March 19, from 7:00pm-8:00pm. The students are anxious to show off their school.  Hope to see you there!

Please remember to bring in your baby picture on Thursday.  We will need it to complete our Open House activity.

Famous South Easterner Presentations

We will begin our famous south easterner presentations on Monday, February 24. Please practice your presentation over the weekend with your family to ensure that you are ready to present to the class. You will also need to bring your rubric on the day of the presentation. I will use it to record your grade. You will earn 1 extra point just for bringing you rubric. Here is the schedule for our presentations:

Extra Credit for Social Studies

The extra credit assignment for Social Studies is due on Tuesday, February 18.
Your job is to create a timeline for Sequoyah. It must have at least 6 events. You may use the Sequoyah handout, page 193 of your Regions book and/or any other sources that you see fit. Please see me for additional questions.

4B math students will have a Unit 5 math test on Friday. Please help your child prepare by going over the study guide with him/her. Students may also view the videos at the bottom of the website and use the unit 5 links for extra review.
