Northeast Spelling Test

On Friday, November 3, we will have a Northeast Spelling Test. Students will be responsible for spelling the 11 Northeast States correctly. Capitalization counts!

Test Reminders

This week the unit 7 Word Study test will be on Wednesday (10/25).
The unit 2 Math test will be on Friday (10/27). Students will receive his/her graded math test back on Monday and corrections will be due on Tuesday. Please see me if you have any questions.

 We've completed our study guide for the Northeast States. We will have a test on the NE states, capitals and abbreviations on Monday, November 6. Students can use his/her study guide and the geography link to prepare. Here's a suggested timeline:
Week 1: Learn the 12 NE states' location on the map

Week 3: Learn the 12 NE states' abbreviation

Math Test Corrections

Unit 1 math test corrections are due on Monday, October 16. If you received a score that is below 70% you are required to make corrections on your test. If your score is above 70%, corrections are optional but encouraged. Please see me if you need any help.

Word Study

The Word Study test for lesson 6 will be on Tuesday, October 17. Most students have completed his/her Word Study sentences and every student has received a list. Please review those items before the test. Another resource is "Spelling City." We have used the free version in class and it is very helpful. It provides practice with spelling and learning the meaning of words. The link can be found at the top of this website.

Chromebook Information

Today I will be sending home the Elementary Handbook for Chromebooks. Please read it carefully.  After reading the handbook you and your child will need to sign and return the Student/Parent agreement. I will also discuss the use of Chromebooks in fourth grade during Curriculum Night on September 13. Please contact me if you have any questions.

The "West" test will be on Friday, May 26. You will need to know each state's location, capital and abbreviation.

Field Trip Reminder

Our 4th grade field trip is on Monday, May 22. Please arrive to school on time. You will need to bring a disposable, sack lunch unless you have already ordered a lunch from Aramark. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather and wear shoes appropriate for lots of walking.

Work Day for State Fair Float

Dear 4B Parents,
On Friday, May 12, I have set aside time for students to work on his/ her State Fair Float.   We will be using shoe boxes as the base of the float. Students should bring in a covered shoe box on or before May 12. The covered shoebox should be labeled with the student’s name on the bottom.  Students may choose any type of paper (construction paper, scrapbook paper, etc.) to cover his/her box with.  The box should be completely covered.
On May 12, students should also come prepared with any additional materials needed to decorate floats. This may include decorative paper or scissors, embellishments, pictures, etc. Students will be able to use some basic supplies from the classroom (construction paper, popsicle sticks, tissue paper, etc.). Please contact me with any additional questions.

Field Trip Reminder

Fourth Graders will be going to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra on Friday. Here are some items to remember for Friday:
1. Arrive to school on time
2. Bring a sack lunch (unless you pre-ordered a school lunch)
3. Dress nicely
We will leave Owen at 9:45 and return to Owen at approximately 1:15.  Upon our return, we will eat lunch in the classroom.

Open House is on Tuesday, February 21, from 6:30pm- 7:30pm. This event is for the entire family!  Students will have the opportunity to show their family around the school, visit with all teachers and show off their work. Hope to see everyone at this event!

Extra Credit

The social studies extra credit assignment will be due on Tuesday, February 21.
Assignment:  Create a timeline of  Sequoyah's life. Your timeline should include at least 8-10 major events related to Sequoyah. You may use your social studies' text book, class handout, and websites to gather information. Please see me if you have any other questions.

Valentine Exchange


    On Tuesday, February 14, students will have the opportunity to exchange Valentine Cards with their classmates.  If your child would like to participate he/she will need to bring a card for every student.  Students will not be able to pass out any treats.  Students may also bring an additional snack and clear beverage to have in the afternoon.

Upcoming Science Test

We are currently finishing up our "Rocks and Minerals" unit. Students will have a test on Wednesday, January 18. Study guides were completed and sent home on Friday (1/13).  Students should use the study guide and his/her Rocks and Minerals file to prepare for the test.
